Contradiction – Spot the Liar!: Walkthrough Guide

Friday, After 8pm, 33%:

You can watch my video for this part of the walkthrough or continue below for the step-by-step guide:

1. You’re now interviewing Paul Rand, Ryan’s father. Ask him about everything you possibly can to get information from him. He’s lying about something:

“Paul said the Atlas don’t allow drugs or alcohol on the site.”
“Liam had been drinking all night at the seminar.”

(null)

Paul will tell you you can go look around the kitchen.

Your progress should be 37% now.

2. Go to Atlas and head down the corridor to the kitchen. Tap the magnifying glass and Jenks will search the place, finding a DVD.

3. Use the DVD with the TV to see a video of someone getting pick-pocketed.

4. While you’re at Atlas, head to the Reading Room. It looks like you interrupted some sort of ritual.

(null)

5. Leave Atlas. On the way out, Jenks will find a remote control lock on the ground.

(null)

6. Go back to the Eden Lodge and ask Simon about the DVD and the doll burning ceremony. Simon will tell you about autohypnosis or self-hypnosis.

7. Interview Emma and ask her about the DVD, ceremony and autohypnosis.

8. Go up the street by the Branden House. The driveway was empty till now but now there’s a car there. Use the remote control lock on the garage door. Jenks will notice some of Ryan’s guitars being stored in there.

(null)

9. Knock at the door of the Branden House to talk to Paul. Ask him about the DVD, doll burning ceremony, autohypnosis and guitars.

10. Go to Abbey Farm and question James about autohypnosis. He’ll tell you it’s another name for scrying.

11. Go to the pub and ask Rebecca about the DVD, dolls, autohypnosis and guitars. She tells you to ask Ryan about the DVD and says she made the dolls for Ryan.

12. Go back to Eden Lodge and ask Simon and Emma about the guitars. Emma says she was in the band called “Blackstone.” That means she was lying about knowing Liam! Contradiction!

“Emma used to sing in a pub band called Blackstone.”
“Emma didn’t know Liam very well.”

(null)

You progress should now be at 41%.

13. Head to the Lake Junction. Jenks will be jumped by some guy who throws a bag over his head and takes the DVD. Looks like one piece of evidence is gone. But the bag may offer a new clue.

14. Go back to Brandon House. Ask Paul about the bag. He’ll claim he doesn’t recognize it. But of course he’s lying. Here’s the contradiction:

“Paul doesn’t know where the bag is from.”
“Paul said the mask is from Monarch Costumes, a local fancy dress shop.”

(null)

Paul will tell Jenks about Jason and what was on the DVD.

Your progress should now be 44%.

15. Ask Rebecca, Simon and Emma about the bag and Paul’s theft stunt. Emma reveals that she used to go to Third Eye but stopped because she felt it was abusive. She’s still lying about something, though!

“Emma was at Third Eye when Paul pulled the stunt.”
“Emma was away on holiday the night Liam died.”

(null)

Emma will admit to having said mean things to Liam and feeling responsible for his death.

Your progress should now be at 48%.

Thank you for doing this — I look forward to when you get to the very end of the game, because that’s where I’m stuck.

    1. AppUnwrapper

I played it a few months back, so I forgot some of the contradictions. But I remember the end better than the middle!

    2. Jeremy

Where are you stuck? I’m stuck as well … I’m at 85% talking to Ryan and can’t figure out what to do. Even with the cheat, all of the matches I try related to each other aren’t working… Otherwise this is an excellent game!

      1. Jinx

        I’m stuck at 96% — so frustrating!

        1. AppUnwrapper

Almost there. 93% and forgot what the contradiction is at this point. :/

        2. AppUnwrapper

I just finished the walkthrough if you still need help. 🙂

The piece of tape was the first clue Jenks ever had ,stuck to the Driving Licence. And analyzing the broken window behind the pub ,in the beginning showwed that same piece of tape ,that should have been the first lead.Yet ,somehow ,Jenks and the game ,ignores it from the very beginning ?As soon as I saw it on the window I knew the pub people were involved somehow ,but the game didn’t allow you to collect it from the black plastic bag covering the window………that was a BIG flaw in the game scenario…….

    1. AppUnwrapper

That’s true. I think I was able to forgive it because I still enjoyed the game so much. But I agree, it doesn’t make sense that Jenks didn’t ask about it earlier.

  3. Jinx

Yeah, the tape thing was irritating as a way to end it. 1) why would I assume the same tape was used? The game didn’t let you collect it from the window. 2) Why would that be the thing that exposed everything? All it takes in response is saying “oh, you’re right, I forgot I used it on the window. Must be where I remember it from.” 3) Based on such flimsy evidence there’s no way I can see the cool, calm Rebecca blurting out a confession. The tape was hardly a smoking gun.

    1. AppUnwrapper

I was more surprised that Rebecca admitted to pushing her down with a stick. Not saving someone isn’t a crime, but actively helping them die is.

But I still really enjoyed the game — even if the ending wasn’t up to snuff.

    2. AppUnwrapper

…just like the holes we found in Her Story doesn’t negate everything I got out of the game.

  4. James

“It turns out Rebecca killed Kate because she thought she was having an affair with Emma, when it was really Emma”

Emma?? Don’t you mean Ryan??? Nice typo!!

    1. AppUnwrapper

Lol sorry! “Wasn’t Emma, it was Emma!” Yeah…. Maybe if this was Her Story. 😛
      Thanks…will fix that!

Finished the game.. with some help from this excellent walkthrough when I was stuck but surprisingly my progress is at 96%…. how could it be? what did I miss? I would expect since I finish the game to be at 100%, right?

Left me puzzled… I really enjoyed the game though, wish they can do a sequel like they are hinting at in the credits

  6. Stacey

I found going back and asking the same people the new questions over and over a little tedious after a while.

Also, I had primarily used the map to get places and never would have seen things in the woods without the walkthrough telling me to walk into the woods. So the game contradicts itself! It tells you to use the map but you can finish the game without walking in the woods sometimes.

Thanks for all your walkthrough and recommendations!
